Board Members Present:  Bryan Cooperrider, Renee Fauset, Katherine (Kathy) Lampros, Mark Neumayr, and Sandra Dihlmann

Board Members Absent:  Jason Aulwes

Non-Board Members Present: Gina Andress, Vanessa Fitz-Kesler

  1. Call to Order/Welcome by Renee Fauset: The meeting was called to order at 3:10 p.m.

  2. Adoption of Agenda by Renee Fauset: Mark Neumayr made a motion to adopt the September 9, 2020 agenda. Bryan Cooperrider seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

  3. Call to the Public by Renee Fauset: There were no members of the public in attendance.

  4. Disclosure of Conflicts by Sandra Dihlmann: No additional disclosures or updates of conflicts to report.

  5. Action Item: Approve August 12, 2020 Meeting Minutes by Renee Fauset: Mark Neumayr made a motion to adopt the August 12, 2020 Meeting Minutes with corrections to the spelling of Bryan Cooperrider’s name and Mark Neumayr’s name. Kathy Lampros seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
  • Agenda Item: Update from School Committee on Inclusion, Equity, and Diversity by Gina Andress. Gina updated the Board about teacher initiatives to incorporate diversity into curriculum and to foster conversations surrounding inclusion.
  • Action Item: Approve Teacher evaluation form by Gina Andress. Mark Neumayrmade a motion to adopt the Arizona Mode for Measuring Educator Effectiveness Teacher Observation Process,with modifications to the form, as needed, by the Mountain School Principal. Kathy Lampros seconded the motion.. The motion passed unanimously.
  • Action Item: Approve Principal Evaluation form by Vanessa Fitz-Kesler, Executive Director. Mark Neumayr made a motion to approve the Arizona Mode for Measuring Educator Effectiveness Principal Observation Process provided by the state and requests that the Mountain School Executive Director and Principal evaluate and incorporate any additional information and/or necessary steps to the process for presentation to the Board during a future Board meeting. Bryan Cooperrider seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
  • Agenda Item: Director’s Report, by Vanessa Fitz-Kesler, Executive Director
    • ESG-Enrollment Stability Grant-Sept 4
    • REAP (Rural) Grant – $35,000 was awarded
    • ASBA Law Conference, Sept 9-11
    • Charter Board compliance checklist-due Oct 1
    • Audit on calendar October 12 & 13
    • Three salary changes—might need to do an amended budget. Audra is now full-time for the year to assist with workload.

  • Agenda Item: COVID 19 update by Vanessa Fitz-Kesler, Executive Director. Teacher and Administration concerns about reopening the Mountain School campus in October were presented to the Board.  The Board agreed that they would like to see the Covid-19 numbers appear in the lowest risk category before considering a full reopening in-person and was concerned about the impact of converting to a hybrid model on students and staff, particularly if the Covid-19 numbers got worse and required reverting to a virtual model.

  • Agenda Item: Future board member update by Renee Fauset, President. Sandra Dihlmann and Renee Faust met with a potential new Board member at Mountain School for a campus visit and discussion of the school’s mission, vision, and needs.  This candidate will attend the October Board meeting for further discussion and potential membership.
    Another potential member has been recruited and given a Board packet for membership consideration. Bryan Cooperrider will provide an update at the next meeting regarding the potential member’s interest.
  1. Agenda Item: Note taking for meeting minutes by Renee Fauset, President. A discussion concerning the role of note taking was addressed. To afford assistance to the Secretary, before each Board meeting the Secretary will forward a properly formatted Meeting Minute Template, which includes the upcoming Board agenda items, to Mark Neumayr. Mark will record the minutes during the meetings, and Kathy Lampros will review and Sandra Dihlmann will finalize any formatting needs to the minutes before submitting them to Vanessa Fitz-Kesler for posting and distributing.

  3. Adjourn by Renee Fauset: The meeting was adjourned at 3:05 p.m..
