Letter from the Principal

Hello, Mountain School Families!Ms. Gina helps translate

I would like to welcome all of you to a brand new year!  I can’t wait to be a part of all the learning that will take place inside (and of course, outside) these walls during the 2017 & 18 school year.  As always, I am looking forward to seeing all of your wonderful faces on the first day.  It will be so nice to visit with old friends and to make new ones!

As we enjoy the last few weeks of summer, our little school is getting spruced up, cleaned up and polished up for a smooth start!  New carpet was installed in all of the classrooms, floors were repaired and polished in the bathrooms, and new security measures are being installed.  Our dedicated staff has been in throughout the summer to get their classrooms in order, keep the gardens beautiful, and beautify our lovely campus.

Our priority is to provide an environment where children can express themselves, feel comfortable about taking risks and making mistakes, and take ownership of their learning.  We strive to engage families in creating a community that nurtures students and fosters curiosity and love of learning, guides them to be good citizens and friends, and helps them achieve their highest potential.  To this end, we are launching our Mountain School Core Values this year.  Respect, Optimism, Achievement, Responsibility, Safety (ROARS); we believe these values promote what Mountain School stands for.  Throughout the school year, ask your child about “R.O.A.R.S” – which is what a Mountain School Mountain Lion does!

We thank you for enrolling your child in our school, and we ask that you consider this enrollment as more than just paperwork and good attendance.  We ask that you invest in our community, and enlist in promoting the mission of Mountain School.  We know you want the best for your children and so do we! We believe that strong connections between home and school provide the most powerful learning possibilities for children.  You are an important part of this community.  Your support and involvement enhances the opportunities that we can provide.  We love your children, and appreciate you for sharing them with us every day!  I’ve included information below about some of the important events in the first week of school.  Additional information will be addressed during our Parent Orientation Nights. Here are some important dates that you will want to include in your plans for the next month.

  • Wednesday, August 9, 10-11am – Pre-K, Kindergarten, K-1 “Meet and Greet”
  • Thursday, August 10 – First Day of School! If you arrive before 8:15, please report to the gym for Before Care with Ms. Sally.
  • Tuesday, August 15, 6pm – Parent Orientation, Kindergarten through 2nd grade classrooms
  • Wednesday, August 16, 6pm – Parent Orientation, 2/3 Multiage through 5th grade classrooms

Again, I extend heartfelt thanks and a warm welcome to all of you today and always.  My door is always open, and I look forward to working with all of you.  You and your families are a huge part of what makes Mountain School so special, and together with our amazing teachers, devoted staff, and brilliant students, we can achieve great things.
