Hello, Mountain School Families!

Welcome to a brand new year at Mountain School!   I can’t wait to see all of you on the first day.    It will be so nice to see new friends and old as we begin our journey together for 2018-19.

I know we are all enjoying these last few weeks of summer (and the long-awaited rain) and while all of us are hiking, swimming, playing, reading, relaxing and soaking it up, our little school is getting ready for all the learning and exploring that will take place!  Teachers and staff have been in all summer putting loving touches on their classrooms, caring for the gardens, painting, cleaning, and preparing special places and experiences for all of us!

Our Mountain School Core Values are Respect, Optimism, Achievement, Responsibility, Safety (ROARS); these values are carefully chosen to reach our goals and fulfill our mission.  We promote these values in our procedures and lessons, and they are a big part of each day’s goals and expectations.  We also choose a special monthly ideal or goal to focus on which is connected with and explored through R.O.A.R.S.  Throughout the school year, ask your child about “R.O.A.R.S” – it’s what a Mountain School Mountain Lion does!

I’ve included information below about some of the important events in the first week of school.  Additional information will be addressed during our Parent Orientation Nights. Here are some important dates that you will want to include in your plans for the next month.

  • Wednesday, August 8, 10-11am – Meet and greet for our primary students: Pre-K (Ms. Sue), Kindergarten (Ms. Corrie), K-1 (Ms. Liz)
  • Thursday, August 9 – First Day of School! If you arrive before 8:15, please report to the gym for Before Care with Ms. Sally.
  • Tuesday, August 14, 6pm – Parent Orientation, Kindergarten through 2nd grade classrooms
  • Wednesday, August 15, 6pm – Parent Orientation, 2/3 Multiage through 5th grade classrooms

Thank you for being a partner with us in educating these wonderful children.  We strive to engage families in creating a community that nurtures students and fosters curiosity and love of learning, guides them to be good citizens and friends, and helps them achieve their highest potential.  We know you want the best for your children and so do we.   The opportunities that we can provide are greatly enhanced by your support and involvement.  We love your children, and appreciate you for sharing them with us every day.  My door is always open, and I look forward to working with you.  You and your families are a huge part of what makes Mountain School so special, and together with our amazing teachers, devoted staff, and brilliant students, we can achieve great things.

Sincerely,

Gina Andress, Principal
