     Philosophy and Biography    

My name is Mary Cunningham and I am teaching second grade this year. I am looking forward to a fantastic year with your child! I feel fortunate to be in such a fantastic environment here at Mountain School.

I grew up in Globe, Arizona and moved to Flagstaff about five years ago. I graduated from Northern Arizona University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and have an Early Childhood Endorsement. My interests include traveling, hiking, yoga, snowboarding, reading and spending time with friends and family.

I believe in a child-centered approach to teaching and have high expectations for my students. I believe children learn best through active and authentic learning experiences. Children learn through play and hands-on activities. I use cooperative groups in my classroom, which provides a wide range of learning experiences. I promote a safe and loving classroom environment where each child can learn and grow. As a teacher it is my responsibility to facilitate learning. I encourage healthy bodies along with academic endeavors.
