Hello there! I am your new fifth
grade teacher, Melissa Bond. I am so happy to be teaching at
Mountain School and I look forward to meeting my students and their
families. I grew up in central Phoenix. When I was 14 we moved to
Flagstaff and I went to Coconino High School and then earned my
degree in elementary education from NAU. After NAU, I moved back to
Phoenix and taught for five years (kindergarten, first grade and
third grade), earned my master’s degree in elementary education, got
married and had my daughter Bridget. My husband Kevin and I decided
that we wanted to raise our daughter Bridget in Flagstaff and we
moved back here three and a half years ago when Bridget was four
months old. We are very glad that we made the move back to
Flagstaff. |

Our family is
active and we enjoy gardening, hiking, reading, traveling,
snow skiing and any fun activity that engages our four year
old! We love taking advantage of this wonderful place that we
live in any chance we get. |

I love being an educator. I believe
in a curriculum that is child centered, inspirational and
imaginative; where reading for meaning, and writing with purpose is
paramount. I believe that all children can learn and succeed. I
believe in creating a special community for my students within the
classroom that will promote a safe, secure and successful
environment through effective classroom management. This environment
nurtures the affective and cognitive development of every child. In
my classroom every child is exposed to authentic learning
experiences alive with literature, print and hands on learning
experiences that will stimulate their minds. My classroom
environment enables learners to acquire a strong character and to
become creative and critical thinkers. |

Finally, I believe that a classroom
filled with creativity will capture the hearts and minds of children
and facilitate growth and knowledge. I am a teacher who believes in
her students from the moment they walk into my classroom on the
first day of school. And I will believe in them eternally as they
become life long learners. My goal is to make sure that every day is
rewarding, fun and challenging for my students. |
