Corrie Gonzales, K-2 Instructional Support

About Me:

Hello Mountain School families!  My name is Corrie Gonzales.  I have spent most of my life in Flagstaff.  I graduated from NAU, with a degree in Elementary Education and Speech Pathology/Audiology, and later earned a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and Reading Instruction.  I have taught many years of kindergarten and first grade, and spent five years as a stay-at-home mom in the middle of it all.  I love learning, teaching brings me much joy!  I enjoy the school community setting, and working with parents and students.  Teaching adds importance to my life by helping others learn and succeed in their lives.  Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends.  I love being outdoors, gardening, hiking and paddle boarding.  I am VERY excited to be teaching Kindergarten and to be a part of the fantastic Mountain School Team!

Teaching Philosophy:

An effective early childhood education involves a community effort from teachers, parents, administration, other supportive professionals, and students as peer tutors.  Together, as a team, students can be educated to become a well-rounded individual, socially, emotionally, and academically.  Students need a positive school experience and a strong foundation for their future schooling and life.  I feel school, as well as the home, is where students gain their love of learning; therefore I will foster this in my classroom.  Our classroom will be a safe, caring environment based on the respect and encouragement of others.  Children will feel comfortable to take risks and be challenged.

Students will have times of individualized learning by teaching standards in different manners based on the child’s learning style and previous knowledge.  I will work in conjunction with colleagues to create units of study that are engaging and interesting to our students and lessons that vary depending on the different learners in our classrooms.
