![Traffic Flow Plan - Mountain Charter School [Flagstaff Arizona]](../images/titleheads/traffic-flow-title.jpg) |
| |
|
During this school year, the faculty and
staff of Mountain School have implemented a traffic flow
plan in anticipation the growth of the school during
the 2007-08 school year. Many of the families will
still be in attendance and we saw an opportunity to
"train" the existing parents so that a majority will
already be familiar with the plan when the expansion
of the school is complete during the fall of this
year.
There are three
critical directives to the parents in this plan.
They are as follows:
Parents can only
be in the two-lane, one-way, drive-through if: |
|
|
1) |
They stay
in their cars in the right lane as they
pick up their children at the
teacher-directed sidewalk dismissal
point. |
|
|
|
|
2) |
They are
leaving the campus in the left lane. |
|
|
|
|
3) |
If
parents have to come into the school,
they must either park in the parking lot
or on Wagon Trail. |
|
 |
|
| |
| The
plan really improved traffic flow during last
school year. The teachers and aides would have the
classes on the sidewalk at 3:00 and would
individually dismiss each child as the parent or
carpool approached. The director of the school made
sure that no one stopped in the left lane, which
would prevent the parents who had already picked up
from exiting the campus. By 3:15, the entire process
was complete.
One feasible idea is to
dismiss the 6th grade (only class in the new
building) fifteen minutes later. Sixth graders need
more academic minutes than all lower grades, so this
can easily be implemented. The only catch would be
that parents of 6th graders who had younger siblings
would be waiting 15 minutes for their 6th graders,
but this scenario only affects three or four
families. |
