Grade 3 May 11 Newsletter

May 11, 2017

Dear Parents,

I would like to thank all the parents who volunteered this year. Your help in the classroom, at home, and on field trips has been invaluable. Thank you so much for your dedication and support. I will no longer need volunteers in the classroom.

Environmental Issues and Biography Book Report Posters are now hanging in the hallway.

Economic Fair work sessions have been going well. The students are very excited about the fair. We will have 2 more work sessions before May 19th. The last work session is scheduled for Monday. It will consist of having a soft opening to hopefully work out any glitches.

During the last weeks of school, the 3rd graders will be studying geology in science. The Magnificent Mustaches will also continue learning about the Civil War in social studies.

The Magnificent Mustaches have voted on having a “Fun Day” on Wednesday, May 17th. Since they just finished reading Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo, they would like to watch the movie. In the book, the main character throws a party for her new friends. I thought it would be fun to replicate the party in the classroom. I am hoping parents can donate some items for the party. There is a list posted outside our classroom. Students can also bring in a game from home to play with their classmates.

May 21-26 is Bike to Work/School week. You can find more information at flagstaffbiking.org. Mt. School is encouraging all students to bike on Wednesday, May 24th. Schools, students, and individual classrooms can receive prizes for their involvement. You can log your commute on their website for additional raffle prizes.

Just a reminder that your child needs to have a water bottle at school every day. The 3rd graders have P.E. every Tuesday and Wednesday and sneakers are mandatory.

On the last day of school there will be a short awards ceremony and slide show, at 10:30, in the classroom. Report Cards will be handed out following the ceremony.

I am in need of “kid friendly” magazines that can be cut up.

Important Dates:

May 19th-Economic Fair, 8:45-9:45

May 21st-26th-Bike to School/Work Week

May 29th-No School

June 1st-Last day of school, half day, awards at 10:30

Sincerely,

Ms. Julie
